The Spectacular Spider-Man #52

The cover of this March 1981 issue — penciled by Frank Miller and inked by Bob Wiacek — is a striking composition: Spider-Man's enormous masked face fills the background while a white-costumed figure recoils at the center, caught in a hail of gunfire from three weapons blazing in the foreground, spent shell casings raining everywhere. The title "The Day of the Hero Killers!" promises exactly the kind of high-stakes tension that cover delivers, with guns converging from every angle in a scene of pure kinetic dread. Roger Stern scripts, with interior art by Rick Leonardi and Jim Mooney — a strong creative lineup for what looks like one of 1981's more intense Spidey outings.
