Marvel itself slaps a bold warning right on the cover of The Spectacular Spider-Man #185 (1992): "The Weirdest Issue of the Year!" — and the image delivers on that promise, with Spider-Man striding confidently forward flanked by two hulking, humanoid giant frogs who look entirely too comfortable in his company. The cover by Sal Buscema leans into the absurdity with a wink, its caption cheerfully admitting that yes, there are giant frogs, and no, they're not even the strangest thing inside. J. M. DeMatteis and Sal Buscema clearly had a great time crafting "Another Fine Mess!" — a story that seems perfectly happy being funny on purpose.
