The Silver Pony #[nn]
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis wordless graphic novel by Lynd Ward tells the story of a lonely farm boy who discovers a winged pony, leading to a series of fantastical adventures. Originally published in 1973, the book uses Ward's signature woodcut-style illustrations to convey its narrative without text. This edition collects the complete story as a single volume from Houghton Mifflin.
In "1," Lynd Ward’s hauntingly drawn story follows a boy who, in the quiet of night, mounts a flying silver pony and soars beyond the stars—only to find the heavens filled with the cold machinery of war. As satellites, missiles, and bombs loom in the sky, the boy’s journey takes a sudden, dramatic turn, leaving him falling back toward Earth. The issue, a striking early work by Lynd Ward, features his distinctive woodcut-style art and a quiet, powerful narrative that lingers long after the final page.

The boy rises from his bed at night, still in his pajamas, and rides away with the flying pony. The pony ascends high toward the moon, to the very edge of space. But there the sky is crowded with satellites, missiles, and bombs. They blast the Silver Pony from the sky, and the boy plunges toward the earth.
