Dr. Strange's commanding visage dominates this 1993 launch issue, his outstretched hands poised as if assembling the eclectic team charging forward beneath him — Wolverine in his classic yellow-and-blue costume, claws at the ready, flanked by Darkhawk and Nomad on one side and Spider-Woman on the other. The fiery red composition does a fine job of telegraphing the energy of "A Gathering of Heroes," the story that kicks off this unconventional team book. Writer Roy Thomas and cover artists Andre Coates and Don Hudson give Marvel's newest ensemble a bold, kinetic introduction that makes it easy to see why this one earned the "1st Unbelievable Issue" badge.
