“The Blood of the Gods [Chapter I]”

Earl Norem's painted cover for this 1978 Marvel magazine-format issue sets the tone perfectly: Conan faces down a massive, grey-bearded giant in fur and a studded belt, sword raised mid-battle amid the gloom of haunted caverns, while a jeweled woman looks on from the rocky ground nearby. The cover promises "an all-new, novel-length tale of treachery and terror" — a fitting pitch for the story within, written by Roy Thomas with interior art from John Buscema and Alfredo Alcala.
