The Rocketeer: Breaks Free #3

The Rocketeer sweeps a dark-haired woman off her feet — literally — as the two of them soar past a San Francisco cable car on the Powell and Market line, startling the passengers inside, in Doug Wheatley's beautifully detailed cover for this third chapter of IDW's Breaks Free arc. The retro-noir atmosphere is pitch-perfect, with neon-lit storefronts, a gleaming black automobile, and city skyscrapers glittering behind the rocket's exhaust plume. Stephen Mooney and Staz Johnson's series continues to make a strong case that the Rocketeer belongs right alongside the great pulp adventure heroes of any era.
