☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe issue contains two main stories. "The Horse Trader" features a masked Rider who intends to round up wild herds and settle matters once and for all with the horse trader. "The Sand Ships" follows Swift Arrow and his scouting party as they encounter strange desert creatures and camels brought by soldiers from Egypt, leading to a planned raid on the soldiers' camp. A third backup story titled "The Crooked Brand" is also advertised on the cover.
The Rider and his young companion Bright Feather arrive in Skull Hollow on the trail of a crooked cattle buyer named Joseph Crunch, who's been cheating honest ranchers out of payment for their herds. When they confront Crunch and his gang of hired guns in his office, the Rider must use every ounce of grit and gunslinging prowess to protect an innocent woman and set things right in a town ruled by lawlessness and greed.
When Swift Arrow's scouting party stumbles upon soldiers with mysterious humped beasts from faraway Egypt, the tribe decides to raid the camp and claim one of these remarkable creatures for their own. Chief Yellow Wolf earns the nickname "Camel Nose" after his comical struggles learning to ride the animal, but his determination to master it transforms the unlikely prize into an unexpected advantage—until renegades strike, forcing Swift Arrow to track down the thieves and settle the matter with honor rather than vengeance.
Hermit Slate receives two free tickets to Buckman's Traveling Troupe and decides to bring along his donkey, Miranda, as his unlikely companion to the show. What starts as a rare venture into town for the reclusive old-timer takes an unexpected turn when fun and excitement collide at the op'ry show, transforming Slate into the talk of the town through an act nobody saw coming.
A mysterious horse trader from Kentucky named Gloria Ross arrives in town with an eye for acquiring the finest steeds—including the Rider's prized companion, Lightning—but when Lightning vanishes, the Rider discovers there's far more to her operation than legitimate horse dealing. With help from the reluctant Elmer, the Rider must track down the truth behind a scheme that runs deeper than simple rustling, and reclaim his loyal friend before it's too late.
