The Rider #2
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe issue contains two stories: "Wild Prairie Plot," in which the Rider encounters Native Americans and settlers in conflict, and a young woman named Sky Bird seeks his help proving a man's innocence of leading Indian attacks; and "Parachute Pup," in which a dog named King becomes separated from his young master Bobby during a mountain snowstorm and must navigate treacherous terrain and locate a rescue plane to save the boy's life.
When the Rider and Swift Arrow stumble upon a man falsely accused of horse theft, they uncover a scheme far darker than a simple crime—white rustlers stealing livestock and blaming Native peoples for the thefts. As the two companions pursue the truth through the lawless frontier, they must outwit the gang, survive a wild stampede, and navigate treacherous ground to bring the real criminals to justice and clear Swift Arrow's people of suspicion.
The Rider sets out on what he believes is a mercy mission, only to discover he's ridden straight into a carefully orchestrated trap laid by the ruthless Black Bull and his warriors. Captured and bound on a narrow cliff ledge while the enemy prepares a deadly ambush for the soldiers racing to his rescue, the Rider must use his wits and whatever tools he can improvise to warn Bright Feather and turn the tables before Black Bull's plan claims more lives. It's a tense race against time in the raw frontier, where thinking fast proves just as valuable as a quick draw.
When the Rider witnesses a wagon train under attack, he rushes to help—only to be arrested by the cavalry, who believe he's the white man leading the Indian raids across the territory. With the aid of Sky Bird, the chieftain's daughter, the Rider escapes to expose the real culprit and clear his name, but the truth runs deeper than anyone expected. Now the Rider must infiltrate the outlaw gang's hideout and convince Sky Bird's own brother to abandon the scheme before it's too late.
A hermit who treasures his solitude finds his peaceful gold-panning operation overrun when fortune-seekers discover—or think they've discovered—a fortune on his land in "The Hermit's Hornets!" When the old-timer's stern warnings fail to deter the invading prospectors, he devises an unconventional solution involving nature itself to reclaim what's his. All told by artist and writer from The Rider #2 (1957), this frontier tale proves that sometimes the best defense against trespassers is a little help from some very irritable neighbors.
