A tense street confrontation leaps off this December 1960 cover, penciled by Jack Kirby and inked by Dick Ayers, as the Rawhide Kid strides in boldly to face down a rough-looking villain who has grabbed a woman in a red dress against her will. Onlookers crowd the edges of the scene while speech bubbles crackle with Old West attitude — the Kid's challenge, "Stand away from that gal, you ornery coyote!" sets the stage perfectly for the featured story, "Gun Duel in Trigger Gap!" Ten cents bought a lot of frontier excitement in 1960, and this issue delivers that promise right on its cover.
