The Question #21

Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz deliver a haunting cover for this November 1988 installment — a near-monochromatic wash of rain and shadow reveals the Question's blank, faceless mask emerging from what appears to be a figure collapsing or struggling in standing water, rendered in raw, gestural strokes that feel closer to fine art than standard superhero fare. The "Suggested for Mature Readers" label is well-earned; this is O'Neil, Cowan, and Giordano's series at its most viscerally atmospheric.
