The Punisher #4

Declan Shalvey's cover for this 2016 Marvel series delivers a quietly menacing composition: Frank Castle's skull-emblazoned silhouette dominates the foreground while, framed within the dark curve of his profile, a shattered windshield and a military-style vehicle in a dusty desert landscape hint at the brutal world he operates in. The contrast between Castle's looming, almost abstract presence and the distant scene of apparent combat makes for an arresting piece of design. With Becky Cloonan writing and Steve Dillon on interior art, this issue carries some serious creative firepower.
