Deciphering the crude lettering on the map, the children find a buried metal box, and take it to their grandparents. It proves to be filled with old wampum beads, such as Grama needs for her work. Remembering that Lester Laughing was an expert bead maker, they conclude that he wanted them to have these. He was, they tell the children, their great-great grandfather, and he is buried nearby.
