The Phantom Stranger #27

This November 1973 DC issue puts the Phantom Stranger in a genuinely unsettling spot: a sneering, masked villain leans across a table with three guns trained on him from three different hands, while an enormous demonic shadow looms on the wall behind — Nick Cardy's cover composition wrings every drop of menace from that central candle flame caught in the crossfire. The story "Dr. Zorn: Soul-Master" promises exactly the kind of occult villainy the title does best, and fans of early-'70s DC horror-mystery will also find a bonus Spawn of Frankenstein tale tucked inside.
