In "Just Killing Time Part One: A Three Hour Tour," a group of interdimensional beings known as The Next accidentally breach the continuum while chasing a dog that’s sniffed out something strange—leading them to Earth. When teenaged Monikka Wong stumbles upon the creature while waiting for her bus, the resulting chain of events forces The Next to intervene, manifesting on Earth in human forms to heal her after she’s struck by a bus. As they grapple with the unintended consequences of their arrival, the authorities from their home dimension send a hunter after them, while Superman and Metron detect the rift and close in. A group of super-powered beings are traveling across dimensions when their dog smells something and leaves, ending up on Earth. Teen-aged Monikka Wong finds him while waiting for her bus. The others (The Next) track the dog down to California, and try to get Monikka away from it, but that just frightens her into the street, where she is run over by her bus. The Next decide to intervene, and manifest themselves on Earth, healing Monikka from her fatal wounds. Picking Earthly forms (mostly) and names, they then go with Monikka, discovering that they have caused a rip in the continuum membrane when they jumped to Earth. The authorities from where the Next is from find them missing, and send someone after them, to return and then disincorporate them. Meanwhile, Superman and Metron detect the rip, and Superman tracks it to California to see what he can do.
