This collection kicks off IDW's re-presentation of Sam Kieth's surreal and emotionally raw series, gathering the earliest issues of The Maxx. It follows the hulking, purple-clad hero and his social worker friend Julie Winters as they navigate a strange dual existence between the real world and a dreamlike 'Outback' where primal fears take physical form. Kieth's distinctive, expressionistic artwork and the series' blend of superhero tropes with psychological horror and dark humor are on full display in this opening volume.
