Dark Horse brings something refreshingly different to the ring with this first issue of The Masked Macher — Yiddish for "Big Shot," as the cover helpfully clarifies. Center stage stands a masked, cape-wearing championship belt-holder, covered in bandages and radiating battered confidence, flanked by a colorful entourage: a scowling muscular figure, a nervous young man in glasses, a broadly grinning shirtless athlete, and an elderly woman leaning on a cane in a pink robe. It's a wonderfully unlikely crew posed inside the wrestling ropes, and with David A. Goodman writing alongside artists Alex Andrés, Gonzalo Duarte, and Mauro Mantella, this 2024 miniseries already feels like a genuinely fun and heartfelt take on the squared circle.
