The second issue of Mark Millar and Olivier Coipel's supernatural series from Image delivers one of the more quietly unsettling cover images of 2018: a composed older woman, head wrapped and handbag in her lap, seated on what appears to be a bus — except the entire scene is submerged underwater, fish drifting past her as air bubbles rise toward the surface above. Coipel renders the surreal with remarkable calm, making the mundane and the impossible feel utterly matter-of-fact. If this cover is any indication, The Magic Order understands that the most effective strangeness hides in plain sight.
