The material originated not as a traditional print comic but as a ten-issue Marvel Unlimited Infinity Comic — a vertically scrolling, phone-native digital series released weekly in early 2022 as a companion to the Benjamin Percy-written X Lives of Wolverine / X Deaths of Wolverine event. Written by Jim Zub with art, inks, colors by Ramón F. Bachs (colors by Java Tartaglia, letters by Joe Sabino, edited by Mark Basso), the Infinity Comic used a framing device in which Jean Grey telepathically scans Wolverine's mind during the events of X Lives, giving readers a structured tour through Logan's past. The 2024 print edition — with a new cover by Ron Lim — reformatted those ten digital chapters into a single oversized one-shot, bringing the story to a print audience for the first time and releasing it in July 2024 to align with the character's 50th anniversary and the theatrical release of Deadpool & Wolverine.
