About this Collection

This volume collects the debut issue of Marvel's 1991 horror-tinged series The Legion of Night, introducing a team of monster hunters led by Martin Gold. The story brings together characters like Dr. Katherine Reynolds, Chan Liuchow, and Charles Blackwater as they confront supernatural threats, including the dragon Fin Fang Foom, while exploring the dark legacy of the Omen.

In "Messenger from the Dead," writer Steve Gerber and artist Whilce Portacio launch a haunting tale where the murder of Charles Blackwater triggers a chain of supernatural events. As occult figures react to his death, a long-buried threat stirs—Fin Fang Foom is resurrected, fulfilling an ancient prophecy tied to a dangerous cult. The cover by Whilce Portacio and Scott Williams captures the eerie tone, setting the stage for a story where knowledge comes at a deadly cost.

Several people with occult knowledge or sensitivity are alerted when Charles Blackwater is killed by Reeve Calder. Blackwater successfully defended Calder against federal charges stemming from his cult, but learned too much about the cult to remain alive. The cult then brings Fin Fang Foom back to life, fulfilling an ancient prophecy.
