In modern day England, Adam Cadman is the first criminal to be executed by hanging in over 20 years. As he drops through the chute, the rope around his neck does not immediately kill him and he finds himself in the fantastic land of Mazeworld. His hood will not come off and he is immediately identified as one of Mazeworld's prophesied heroes. He quickly runs afoul of Lord Maskul's soldiers and is rescued by the beautiful rebel, Riadne. Even though he tries to betray her to save himself, she brings him to her fellow rebels and explains the Mazeworld to him.
