“The Last Hiding Place”

In "The Last Hiding Place," a gypsy boy’s past comes rushing back as he recounts a traumatic memory from ten years prior—when he fled an orphanage and witnessed a gypsy wedding gone horrifically wrong. After the salesman he traveled with murders the groom in a jealous rage and burns the camp to the ground, the boy escapes and is later found by police, the truth of what he saw finally surfacing. Ken Rice handles both pencils and inks for the story, bringing a stark, expressive style to this haunting tale, while Jim McLaughlin’s cover captures the eerie mood of the gypsy camp in flames.
