The Green Hornet #8
In "Street Lethal," the Green Hornet and Kato, battered but alive after a fiery crash, vanish into the city’s sewers to recover—only to reemerge in a custom-built van that’s still being finished. With the Skid Brothers on the loose and a mysterious Street Beast causing chaos, the duo must race against time to complete their new ride, all while evading both police and a powerful corporate threat. Written by Chuck Dixon and illustrated by Tod Smith, with inks by David Mowry, colors by Patrick Williams, and letters by Susan Dorne, the issue’s cover by Jason Palmer captures the tension of a city on edge.

The Skid Brothers are prevented from confirming the deaths of the Green Hornet and his man by approaching police sirens. Kato manages to pull the unconscious Hornet out of the wreck that had been the Black Beauty and carry him into hiding within the city's sewers despite his own injuries. Both the police and the Skids' potential employer, Mr. Block, are roaring mad at these events--when Hamilton is told the only thing found in the remains of the car was the Hornet's hat, he throws it away in disgust--and Diana isn't too happy that her "nephew" (her and his word) and Hayashi--who've managed to get home--aren't going to a hospital, but the two men know that they'd be arrested immediately. Heavily bandaged up, the two remask, hop into a van, and head to the chop shop to pick up their new car, which isn't quite ready, and they and the "dealer" work twenty hours straight to finish it. The Hornet insists on going after the Skid brothers and the Street Beast immediately--so they give the van to the chop shop operator?--which is accomplished for them by a cop 'copter and their police radio band monitor. The brothers discourage the chopper with automatic weapons fire, but then the new Beauty arrives. The Skids are led into a railroad yard where a paintball shot--one of Beauty IV's new weapons--causes them to lose control and careen into a pile of old train cars, which collapses on and disables their stolen "ride." Several police are on the scene by this time and do not report the Hornet's presence, taking the credit for stopping the Skids themselves. Subsequently, the representative of the Street Beast's owners threatens a lawsuit against the city over significant damage suffered by their prototype, but Hamilton points out that a press conference announcing how a city police force took it out would severely reduce the military's interest in the vehicle. Hamilton's not entirely off the hook, as the Mayor then gives him a warning to back off on his obsession with the Hornet.
