The Goon #33

Eric Powell's cover for The Goon #33 is a wonderfully unhinged composition — the Goon himself looms large in his flat cap, scowling with characteristic menace, while his bug-eyed, gap-toothed pal Franky shouts "Poop Potato!" from the foreground and a lanky, hat-wearing figure deadpans "Wiener" nearby. A tiny furious face erupts from a speech bubble above it all, completing the chaotic, absurdist energy that makes this series so distinctive. Powell's moody ink-wash rendering, full of expressionistic grit and perfectly timed comic grotesquerie, is on full display in this 2009 Dark Horse entry.
