The Goon #22

Eric Powell's painted cover for issue #22 says everything without saying a word — the Goon looms large, his scarred face drenched in blood and wearing his trademark cap, while a smaller figure and a grinning skull emerge from the crimson wash below him. The stark white background makes the red explosion of violence hit that much harder, giving the whole image a raw, almost visceral energy that Dark Horse's horror-tinged series does so well. If you've been following this series, this 2008 entry looks like it doesn't let up for a moment.
