The Goon #14

Eric Powell's The Goon earned the 2005 Will Eisner Award for both Best Ongoing Series and Best Humor Publication — and this issue makes it easy to see why the judges were impressed. The cover presents a deeply unsettling figure in a purple suit and top hat, the hat itself adorned with a grinning skull emblem, while the character's ghastly, mismatched eyes and decaying features are surrounded by a crowd of equally ghoulish faces lurking in the background. It's a genuinely striking piece of cover art, setting a wonderfully creepy tone for the story inside, "Beware the Horse-Eater's Wood.
