The Goon #12

The cover of this 2005 Dark Horse issue says it all in bold, pulpy letters: "The Diabolical Dr. Alloy Rises Again!" — and Eric Powell delivers on that promise with a menacing masked figure looming large against a fiery orange sky, one massive hand thrust forward over a horde of red-eyed mechanical robots stretching to the horizon. In the foreground, the Goon himself hunches forward with his trademark scowl, flanked by the wide-eyed Franky, both apparently sizing up the threat bearing down on them. Powell's cover art blends retro sci-fi dread with his signature rough-hewn humor, making this issue hard to pass up.
