The Forged #3

Issue three of Image's The Forged throws its central conflict into sharp relief: a massive green battle-mech blazes away with both cannons, muzzle flares lighting up a red-hazed sky, while enormous alien limbs — the "frenzied flesh of the Phobes" teased right on the cover — claw upward from a shattered crystal landscape to engulf it. Mike Henderson's linework captures the sheer scale of machine versus creature with impressive kinetic energy, and Nolan Woodard's hot reds and molten oranges make the whole scene feel like a planet on the verge of collapse. With Greg Rucka and Eric Trautmann promising an enemy revealed and an empire imperiled, this is a series hitting its stride in a big way.
