About this Collection

Collecting the earliest adventures of the Scarlet Speedster, this volume reprints the first stories from Showcase #4, #8, #13, and #14, along with the debut issues of The Flash #105–#108. It chronicles the Silver Age introduction of Barry Allen, the police scientist who gains super-speed after a lab accident, and his early battles against classic rogues like the Turtle and Captain Cold. Presented in a digest-sized format, this collection offers a compact look at the foundational tales that redefined the Flash for a new generation.

In "Mystery of the Human Thunderbolt!", Barry Allen races to unravel a city-wide enigma: a masked gorilla terrorizing Central City, coinciding with blackouts suffered by Fred Pearson, the star of the local theater's hit play. With the Flash baffled by a sonic vehicle that leaves him frozen in place, he teams up with Solovar, a gorilla scientist in need of help, to stop Gorilla Grodd from seizing a powerful mind-control force. Written by John Broome and illustrated by Carmine Infantino with inks by Joe Giella, this 2009 DC adventure blends mystery and speed, all wrapped in a cover by Carmine Infantino and Joe Kubert.
