The Doom Patrol Archives #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis hardcover archive edition collects the earliest adventures of the Doom Patrol, reprinting issues #86–#96 of My Greatest Adventure and the first two issues of The Doom Patrol from 1963–1964. Written by Arnold Drake and illustrated by Bruno Premiani, these stories introduce the misfit team of Robotman, Elasti-Girl, and Negative Man, led by the enigmatic Chief, as they battle bizarre threats in a series that helped define the silver-age superhero team concept. The volume also includes a foreword by Dave Gibbons and restores the original coloring and lettering for a period-authentic reading experience.
The Doom Patrol Archives #1 kicks off with "The Doom Patrol (Chapter 1)," a foundational tale written by Arnold Drake and Bob Haney and illustrated by Bruno Premiani, whose distinctive art brings the team’s early encounters to life. When the Doom Patrol investigates strange, otherworldly beasts on two separate missions, a news report by Dr. Janus hints at a meteorite impact from fifteen years prior—rumored to have carried living creatures—though Robotman’s memories of that event don’t align with the official story. The cover, also by Premiani, captures the eerie, mysterious tone of the team’s first chapter.

The Doom Patrol encounter strange beasts on two missions, and a TV report by Dr. Janus remarks that they are beasts from a meteorite that hit Earth fifteen years ago which, according to eyewitnesses, had living being within. Robotman doesn't remember the incident that way, however.
