“The Enemy within the Doom Patrol, Part 1”

DC's "World's Most Bizarre Heroes" are in serious trouble in this July 1973 issue, as the cover shows Negative Man leveling a gun at a fallen man in a blue suit while declaring he's identified an impostor sent to destroy the team. Elasti-Girl and Robotman stand tensely behind him, and the character portraits along the left spine remind us just how much is at stake for The Chief and every member of the squad. With pencils and inks by Bruno Premiani and Bob Brown, it's a sharp, suspense-charged image that makes "The Enemy within the Doom Patrol, Part 1" feel like essential reading.
