The cover of this sixth volume in Fantagraphics' Complete Peanuts series captures a perfectly awkward social moment: Snoopy sitting wide-eyed on the grass, face-to-face with a small tan cat, visibly uncertain what to say — while a smaller panel above shows a curly-haired girl making the introduction. Charles Schulz's deceptively simple linework and that warm sky-blue background make the scene feel both gently funny and oddly relatable. Collecting strips from 1961–1962, this is a wonderful stretch of Schulz's run rendered in clean, faithful reproduction.
