The Collector: Unit 731 #2

Dark Horse's The Collector: Unit 731 #2 presents a deeply unsettling cover image: a row of seven figures stands in near-silhouette before a stark rising-sun motif rendered in blood red, while a large syringe filled with a crimson substance lies discarded in the cracked foreground. The composition by Will Conrad (who also handles the writing and inking alongside co-writer Rod Monteiro and colorist Marco Lesko) is restrained yet heavy with dread, letting that central syringe do a lot of quiet, disturbing work. If this second chapter carries the same grim weight as its cover suggests, "Chapter Two" looks to be a compelling piece of historical horror from Dark Horse's 2022 lineup.
