The Chilling Archives of Horror Comics! #5
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis volume collects a selection of pre-Code horror comics from the 1950s, many of which were banned or censored under the Comics Code Authority. Featuring lurid, unflinching tales of ghouls, monsters, and supernatural vengeance from publishers like Harvey Comics and others, it showcases the raw, unregulated era of horror comics before industry self-censorship took hold. Curated by Craig Yoe, the book includes rare and notorious stories that capture the macabre spirit of the decade.
"The Wage-Earners" in The Chilling Archives of Horror Comics! #5 (2013, IDW; Yoe Books) delivers a slow-burn tale of inherited dread, as Bill and his wife Betty settle into her family’s isolated New England estate. With Clara, the enigmatic housekeeper, guarding secrets of the past, Betty uncovers a decades-old werewolf curse tied to her own bloodline—just as a new killer begins stalking the countryside. The story, illustrated by the Iger Shop, builds unease through atmosphere and mystery, leaving readers questioning who—or what—is truly behind the attacks. Cover by Lee Elias and Warren Kremer captures the eerie tone with haunting, period-accurate detail.
