“From Far Beneath the Mirror of the Moon!”

Marvel's short-lived but spirited 1973 series reaches its third issue with a cover that puts the Cat face-to-face with real danger — a snarling, long-haired villain in red dominates the foreground, thrusting a fist toward the reader while clutching the Cat in a metal trap, his speech bubble taunting her: "You've foiled my plans just once, Cat — but once is all you get!" A smaller inset in the corner shows the Cat herself in her blue costume, claws extended and ready. The story title "Kill! Cries the Kraken!" and cover work by Rich Buckler, John Romita, and Frank Giacoia make this a vivid showcase for one of Marvel's most determined heroines of the era.
