☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis second volume in Gladstone's Carl Barks Library of Gyro Gearloose Comics and Fillers in Color collects more of Barks' inventive tales featuring the eccentric duck inventor, including his classic solo stories and shorter filler pieces originally published in the 1950s and 1960s. The volume presents these adventures in full color, showcasing Barks' detailed artwork and whimsical gadgetry that defined Gyro's character alongside Donald Duck and his nephews.
In "[Getting Thor] (Danish title)", Gyro Gearloose builds a mechanical scarecrow to protect his strawberry patch from crows, unaware that his Helper has already driven the birds away—inspired by a very literal interpretation of Thor’s legend. The story unfolds with playful misunderstandings as Gyro’s invention takes on a life of its own, all while the Helper proudly claims credit for a feat that may have been more myth than reality.
[Gyro Goes for a Dip] (Danish title) finds Gyro Gearloose eager to enjoy his new pool—until he realizes he can’t swim. Determined to keep up appearances, he devises a series of increasingly elaborate inventions to convince his neighbor, Helper, that he’s a natural in the water.
In "On the Dream Planet," Gyro Gearloose and Gus Goose stumble upon a strange world where everyone lives in blissful idleness—until Gyro, ever the inventor, can't resist showing them how a little effort can make life even more effortless. The moment he suggests improving things, the entire planet begins to change, and the dreamy peace starts to unravel.
