The Call #3

Issue three of Marvel's The Call arrives with a cover that's genuinely hard to look away from — a green-skinned woman in armored white and purple garb stands amid a cascade of falling red rose petals, eyes closed, cradling a withered rose in her gauntleted hand with quiet, almost mournful grace. Gabriele Dell'Otto's painted cover work gives the whole image a melancholy, golden-hued atmosphere that feels more like fine art than a standard superhero cover. With Chuck Austen writing and Pat Olliffe and Livesay handling interior art, this 2003 Marvel series continues to distinguish itself with a mood all its own.
