The Black Hood #3
Dark Circle Comics' gritty street-level series reaches its third installment with a cover that stops you cold — a battered, blood-streaked Black Hood mask looms out of pure darkness, one eye socket hollow and the fabric torn to reveal the skull beneath, rendered in haunting detail by cover artist Greg Smallwood. The blood-splattered logo above and the deep black void surrounding the mask make this 2017 issue feel genuinely unsettling, perfectly in keeping with the "Nobody Murders" storyline Duane Swierczynski and Greg Scott have been crafting. If you want a superhero comic that leans hard into noir tension and consequence, this is the series earning that reputation one brutal chapter at a time.
