Author Lathrop cannot finish his book about the bandito Fernand Chavez, because the ghost of said bandit keeps pestering him. Fate himself has to intervene bringing Lathrop down to Mexico, where he witnesses the more than justified killing of the phantom bandit. The book is written, the chapter closed, justice is served and strangeness as well.
