“The Wedding”

In "The Wedding," Al Capp delivers a delightfully absurd chapter of Dogpatch’s most chaotic romances, where Flash Boredom’s pursuit of Stupefyin' Jones hits a wall—literally—when the townsfolk’s jealousy turns Jones into a human feast. With help from Turnip Termites and a banquet that’s more tempting than any bride, Boredom’s plans unravel in the most deliciously ironic way. The entire story, written, drawn, and inked by Al Capp, is a masterclass in satirical cartooning, with the cover by Al Capp capturing the moment’s absurd grandeur.

Flash Boredom wants Stupefyin' Jones for his bride, but the women of Dogpatch are so jealous of Jones they've been constantly feeding her food, rendering her grotesquely overweight. Boredom's men introduce Turnip Termites to consume Dogpatch's food so Jones will slim down. Unfortunately, no sooner is Jones back down to size than she spies the wedding banquet Boredom prepared and gorges herself on it all. Boredom decides to give up on marrying her.
