The Authority #24

Part two of "Transfer of Power" arrives in this September 2001 WildStorm issue, and the cover sets an unsettling tone right away. A powerfully built figure in clerical vestments — wearing an eyepatch and a gleaming cross pendant — looms over the scene from what appears to be a cathedral throne, arms spread wide, while two bound or subdued figures crouch in the foreground. Dustin Nguyen's pencils and Richard Friend's inks give the whole image a threatening grandeur that makes it very clear someone new may be calling the shots.
