The Approach #5

Something vast and deeply wrong lurks behind an ordinary roadside building as a blizzard swallows the world whole — that juxtaposition of mundane and monstrous is what The Approach does so well. Jeremy Haun's cover art renders the scene with an eerie, washed-out stillness, massive dark tentacles rising through the whiteout above snow-blanketed gas station lights in a way that feels genuinely unsettling. With writers Haun and Jason A. Hurley, artists Jesús Hervás and Lea Caballero, and colorist Brett Weldele on board, this fifth issue from Boom! Studios looks like a tense, atmospheric chapter in one of 2023's more quietly gripping horror series.
