A military unit heads toward the Golden Dragon at 25 miles an hour, attempting to reach the Forbidden City, where Tanya crawls over to take the wheel while a parachute salute fires back at them. After being strafed by a diving airplane and nearly hit, the soldiers escape along a narrow ridge, traveling at night to avoid detection by red troops massing near the Great Wall. When a column of enemy soldiers approaches their position, the unit cuts them down like wheat before reaching a field hospital, where Lieutenant Chickery and his men recount their harrowing escape, during which Chickery was last seen staying behind with the wounded before mysteriously reappearing alive.
