“Invasion of the Dragon Men”

"Invasion of the Dragon Men" sees Spider-Man confronting a mysterious threat when reptilian figures from space are spotted in the New York countryside, led by a towering, dragon-like figure named Draco. As Spider-Man investigates strange activity in the city's sewers, he uncovers Draco's hidden base and thwarts the first phase of the invasion—only to face the real danger atop the Empire State Building, where the villain's true, shocking identity is revealed. Written by Arthur Korb and illustrated by Rich Buckler with inks by Terry Austin, this 1977 story features dynamic art and a twist that redefines the enemy, all wrapped in a striking cover by John Romita.

Reptile men from space are seen stalking the New York countryside, led by a larger dragon-like version calling itself Draco. The next day, Peter Parker detects something strange about the NY sewers. Investigating as Spider-Man, he discovers Draco's HQ, and foils his plans by flooding the sewers. Later that night, after the "dragon men" have been revealed as robots, Spidey is attacked atop the Empire State Building by Draco, who turns out to be a Nobel-winning biologist, transformed by iguana DNA. Their battle ends with Draco falling from the ESB, his wings apparently as fake as his "invasion".
