When Tintin hurries from India to Shanghai in response to a call for help, the Japanese consul tries to trick him into returning. Since Tintin defends the Chinese against foreigners, European leaders along with the Japanese try to kill or imprison him, but he is rescued by Mr. Wang, leader of an anti-opium squad, the Sons of the Dragon. In Chinese dress, Tintin saves a young boy his own age while investigating opium smuggling and Japanese aggression. Thanks to his work the smugglers are arrested, and the Japanese are forced to retreat from the latest conquests.
