Robin Hood evades capture by the Bishop of Hereford's soldiers, who have been ordered to arrest him, by splitting his band and sending them in different directions while he journeys westward. After two days of pursuit, the Bishop gathers his troops and prepares to block every route to Sherwood Forest. Meanwhile, Robin surprises a group of outlaws with a birthday celebration for Little John, complete with games and festivities organized by the outlaw band. Later, Robin and his men conduct a series of robberies over three weeks, always dressed in Lincoln green to identify themselves, while the Sheriff's store of provisions grows dangerously full, prompting Robin to visit Old Thomas of the Glen—an aged man living in the forest—where he is ultimately refused help and told they want nothing to do with common thieves.
