During summer in the Wheat Kingdom, Peter Wheat and the village folk enjoy peaceful recreation by the castle moat until the Grand Hornet Wizard and his hornet knights set fire to the forest to drive everyone away so they can capture the castle undefended. Peter must control the spreading fire while also preventing the hornet knights from reaching the Wheat Kingdom, with assistance from a blue jay and a girl named Terence. Peter devises a plan involving Terence luring the wizard onto a bridge over the moat, which collapses when she causes him to fall into the water, thwarting the invasion.
