Riley's Rangers face off against Garcia's guns in a confrontation involving a wild man who possesses a magical whistle that renders anyone who hears it unconscious. After the Rangers defeat the wild man and his associate, they learn from a cave man that Garcia is holding children captive in the mountains. The Rangers pursue Garcia to rescue the children and confront him at his hideout. In a separate sequence, Hunk Wedges pursues a fleeing bandit named Gringo across the desert, eventually catching him with the help of his horse and a bandit woman named Estella.

But when Addley comes face to face with the fugitive, he discovers the "killer" is something far stranger than a common outlaw: a wild man, half-human and dangerous, forcing the ranger to make an impossible choice between justice and compassion as the creature flees into the mountains with a homesteader family caught in the crossfire.

With Garcia suspicious of their story about hidden gold and Hunk's impulsive antics threatening to expose them at every turn, Riley must keep his cover intact long enough to spring the snare—if his men can reach the fort in time.
