Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutanimals #1

The Mutanimals take center stage in this 2015 IDW miniseries, spotlighting some of the TMNT universe's most compelling mutant outcasts. Andy Kuhn's cover assembles a striking crew atop a rooftop marked "NULL" — a hulking armored mutant wolf dominates the foreground while a skateboarding lizard soars overhead, a crab-like mutant brandishes bladed weapons at right, and a pair of pigeons flank the group below a dramatic full moon. With Paul Allor writing and Nick Filardi's vivid colors setting a nocturnal, action-charged tone, this one makes a strong case for the Mutanimals earning a story all their own.
