Tom Waltz scripted every one of the IDW series' first 100 issues alongside Kevin Eastman, who provided plot and page layouts from the very beginning. Waltz publicly announced his departure from the main title at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, framing #100 as a planned endpoint for his era. To contextualize the milestone, IDW published a companion title — Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Road to 100 — a 16-page recap written by Waltz and Eastman covering the full IDW run up to that point. In a private tribute arranged by IDW, Kevin Eastman illustrated an exclusive variant cover portrait of Waltz surrounded by the Turtles, distributed only to IDW employees at the company's December 2019 holiday party and kept secret from the official cover gallery printed inside the issue itself.
