Teen Titans #9

The tagline says it all — "Enter the Lost World of Skartaris" — as this June 1997 issue kicks off a three-part Teen Titans adventure in DC's sword-and-sorcery underworld. Dan Jurgens and George Pérez's cover plants us squarely in that prehistoric realm: a bare-chested, feather-helmeted warrior brandishing a massive sword stands atop a tyrannosaur, flanked by a glowing pink energy-form figure in chains and a small black cat lurking in the foreground mushrooms. It's a vivid, pulpy tableau that makes a confident promise of wild fantasy to come from the Jurgens/Pérez creative team.
